The Project

As a result of critical threat assessments and risk mitigation studies at the Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant (AWTP), DC Water undertook a series of projects to construct floodwalls to protect the plant from flooding on the adjacent Potomac River with a 500-yr return frequency.  RK&K, as a subconsultant to the successful design-builder Corman Kokosing, led the design team in the development of a floodwall solution for Segment C of the four planned phases of floodwall construction.  Overall project responsibilities included project management, surveys, utility locating, natural resources permitting, SWM/ESC/grading design and permitting, geotechnical engineering and subsurface investigations, structural design, construction phase support, and vibration monitoring.

“RK&K was fortunate to work with a strong team of contractors and subconsultants to overcome some challenging site constraints, including crossing over the main plant outfall structure, during both design and construction.”
