As a Senior Electrical Engineer at RK&K you will be responsible for leading and executing electrical engineering design for water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This role requires advanced technical expertise, leadership in multidisciplinary project teams, and the ability to mentor junior staff. The position involves design, analysis, and oversight of electrical systems to ensure compliance with applicable codes, safety standards, and client requirements.
Essential Functions
- Lead electrical design for water and wastewater facilities in coordination with process mechanical, HVAC, and other engineering disciplines
- Prepare electrical design calculations, drawings, and specifications (one‑lines, power distribution, MCCs/switchgear, cable trays, lighting/wiring, grounding, lightning protection, UPS/load lists, cable sizing)
- Perform voltage drop calculations and ensure overall system reliability
- Review and approve submittals, specifications, and O&M manuals
- Address contractor RFIs and change orders
- Participate in client meetings on conceptual designs and project standards
- Prepare technical memos, proposals, reports, and contract documents
- Provide field services, investigations, and support during startup and commissioning
- Develop detailed engineering cost estimates
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance
- Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 820, and all applicable safety codes
- Travel occasionally for site visits and client meetings
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field
- Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Electrical Engineering and ability to obtain licensure in other states
- Minimum of 8 years in electrical systems design, construction, and commissioning for water and wastewater facilities
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and ETAP/SKM; familiar with lighting design software
- Strong knowledge of NEC and NFPA 820
- Excellent technical writing, communication, organization, and documentation skills
- Able to work independently and collaboratively with strong problem‑solving abilities
- Capable of performing field inspections requiring walking, standing, and climbing
- Able to lift up to 25 lbs as needed
- Office‑based role with occasional travel to project sites and exposure to construction environments
Preferred Skills and Experience
- 10 years of experience in electrical systems design, construction, and commissioning for water and wastewater facilities
- This position may require short-duration travel to client sites and project locations
