The Project

RK&K transplanted submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) to reduce compensatory mitigation of impacted seagrass in the footprint of the Rodanthe Bridge project.

Impacts were reduced by relocating SAV from areas that piles were going to be installed to areas of existing grass.

This relocation effort involved 12 personnel, 3 boats, and 2 UAS and took 3 months to complete.

“This unique project was physically challenging and required innovative techniques to transplant living seagrass from the harvest site to the donor site 11 miles away.”
