We are seeking a Senior Technical Leader with a strong focus in traffic engineering and design to join our growing Texas team. This is a high-impact leadership position responsible for guiding technical excellence, mentoring staff, and supporting both regional traffic initiatives and our national transportation practice. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in traffic design, a passion for innovation, and a collaborative approach to team leadership and client engagement.
Essential Functions
- Lead and grow a high-performing traffic team across our Texas market.
- Serve as the technical authority on complex traffic engineering and design projects, including signal design, ITS, traffic studies, and roadway corridor improvements.
- Collaborate with project managers, planners, and national experts to develop integrated transportation solutions.
- Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers, providing guidance on career growth and technical development.
- Ensure quality control and compliance with state (TxDOT) and federal standards across all project deliverables.
- Act as a strategic advisor for pursuits and proposals, contributing to technical narratives and client presentations.
- Foster strong relationships with TxDOT, municipalities, and other key transportation stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities for innovation and lead implementation of emerging technologies in traffic design and operations.
- Support firmwide traffic engineering practice – including areas such as policy work across our portfolio and design-build traffic support
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
- Minimum 25 years of progressive experience in traffic engineering and design, with at least 10 years in a leadership or senior technical role.
- Expertise in traffic signal design, ITS, work zone traffic control, traffic impact studies, and/or intersection analysis.
- Demonstrated experience working with TxDOT and familiarity with their design manuals and project delivery processes.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
