“Advancing Leaders Through Collaboration,” RK&K Honors AAPI Heritage Month

RK&K is pleased to honor AAPI heritage month and culture through our support of the Maryland Historical Trust in completing a historic context for buildings related to Asian American heritage in the Baltimore region and the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC.

May represents Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, which celebrates the culture and history of Americans hailing from across Asia and from the Pacific Islands of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. The theme for this year, selected by the Federal Asian Pacific American Council is “Advancing Leaders Through Collaboration.”

Today, AAPI communities represent some of the fastest-growing racial and ethnic groups in the U.S..

“Even while being a minority, AAPI communities have been in the forefront of America’s development for so long,” said Project Engineer Nischal Mishra, PE. “From the Asian workers who helped build the transcontinental railway to the present leaders of Silicon Valley, they have been a big part for America’s economic development. To thank them and honor their contributions and is one way to celebrate them.”

RK&K is pleased to honor AAPI heritage month and culture through our support of the Maryland Historical Trust in completing a historic context for buildings related to Asian American heritage in the Baltimore region and the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC. Our work involves researching the settlement patterns of immigrants from southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands to Maryland and identifying sites associated with these communities.

“One amazing thing about RK&K is that it provides opportunities to be involved in numerous cool projects like this one,” Nischal noted. “Not only do these projects preserve our cultural heritage but also make people aware about an important facet of history. RK&K has a very inclusive and diverse work environment and the fact that we work on projects like this show how RK&K is empowering minorities not just by hiring them but also by working on projects that uplift them.”
