The Project

RK&K developed and launched the official website for the Town of Warrenton’s Septic Assistance Program, a public outreach initiative supported by ARPA funding through the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. The site served as the central platform for residents seeking to transition from private septic systems to municipal sewer service. It was designed to guide users through the process clearly and efficiently, from understanding program benefits to submitting complete applications online.

The site includes a custom-built eligibility checker that walks users through a five-step process to verify whether they qualify for assistance. Once confirmed, users can access a secure online application portal with built-in form validation, file upload capability, and reCAPTCHA integration to protect against spam and bot traffic. The site is responsive across all devices, ensuring a seamless experience for mobile, tablet, and desktop users.

RK&K’s team provided end-to-end support, including content development, design, hosting, and ongoing maintenance. The website features plain-language explanations, downloadable resources, and a contact form to support residents at every stage of the application process. Every detail was designed with user experience in mind to reduce barriers to participation and minimize administrative overhead for the Town.

Digital accessibility was a foundational element of the project. RK&K’s development team, which includes a certified accessibility specialist, implemented the site in full compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA standards. This included semantic HTML for screen reader compatibility, descriptive alt text and ARIA labels, keyboard navigation, and sufficient color contrast throughout the design. Forms and documents were also reviewed to ensure they were accessible to users with visual or cognitive impairments.

The Warrenton Septic Assistance Program website demonstrates RK&K’s ability to deliver modern, inclusive, and functional digital solutions that support community engagement and regulatory compliance. Since its launch, the site has helped residents take meaningful steps toward improving their homes and environment, while giving the Town a reliable and maintainable platform to administer the program efficiently.
