Bicycle / Pedestrian
RK&K designs bicycle and pedestrian environments that balance safety, sustainability, comfort, and aesthetics. We integrate hardscape, landscape, and multimodal accommodations to create spaces that are both functional and welcoming. Our approach explores how the pedestrian realm supports daily routines and special events, seeks opportunities to incorporate art, provides space for bicycle movement and parking, and reflects local culture and design standards.
We emphasize accessibility and safety through ADA-compliant features, state-of-the-practice crossings, and roadway designs that support predictable travel and calm vehicular movement—all while contributing to land use goals and economic vitality.
Where possible, design elements serve multiple purposes: trees provide shade, safety, and stormwater benefits; vegetation enhances green infrastructure, creates habitat, and beautifies the space; and plazas offer a place to pause or host community events.
