Building strategic value.
RK&K applies the Value Methodology (VM), also known as Value Engineering (VE), to help clients optimize performance, reduce costs, and support informed decision-making. This structured, function-based approach enhances value across design, construction, operations, and organizational processes.
VE is a proven method used across public and private sectors to balance function, performance, quality, and cost. It follows the eight-phase job plan developed by SAVE International: preparation, information, function analysis, creativity, evaluation, development, presentation, and implementation. Led by a Certified Value Specialist (CVS), the process engages a multi-disciplinary team with expertise in technical disciplines, estimating, risk, and constructability.
At RK&K, we integrate constructability reviews, cost and risk analysis, and stakeholder engagement to ensure the VE process delivers practical, innovative alternatives. A midpoint stakeholder review is often included to align priorities early in the process. All alternatives are evaluated through a structured framework that considers cost, performance, and risk, enabling clients to make well-informed decisions.
In addition to conducting VE studies, RK&K offers training for professionals pursuing certification through SAVE International. Our programs support candidates preparing for both the Value Methodology Associate (VMA) and Certified Value Specialist (CVS) credentials. Led by experienced instructors, these sessions build practical skills in value analysis, functional thinking, and cost optimization for real-world application.
VE is especially valuable for projects with complex staging, geometry, environmental constraints, or stakeholder coordination challenges. It helps reduce conflict, build consensus, and ensure that solutions are thoughtful, feasible, and broadly supported.
RK&K views VE not merely as a cost-reduction tool, but as a strategic framework for smarter planning, enhanced performance, and long-term value.
