Public Outreach
RK&K believes public outreach is a necessary component of all infrastructure projects; however, each project requires a unique perspective based on the type of improvement, the relationship of the improvement to the community, and the public’s perspective of and history with that agency. Although there are lessons learned from prior projects, a one-size-fits-all approach is not appropriate for any agency, and we will develop a public involvement plan tailored to the project size and scope.
Our public engagement process for each project employs a multi-faceted communications strategy. We will first define the target audiences, whether they are the public-at-large, local jurisdictions, elected officials, corporations, or agency/environmental stakeholders. We will engage them early in the project and work toward gaining support from them to achieve a successful outcome.
Our team will obtain a clear understanding of the technical information and project goals from the client, as well as what they look to achieve with the outreach. By understanding who we need to reach and what we need to present, we will then craft an effective communications plan. The approaches and tactics must include two-way communication between the project team and the citizens, as well as opportunities for group discussions, debate, and consensus building.
