The Project

This $9.8 million design-bid-build project completed the final segment of the Crabtree Creek Greenway corridor, connecting Lindsay Drive to the eastern boundary of Umstead State Park at Ebenezer Church Road. The work included the construction of over two miles of new greenway trail, two pedestrian bridges—one of which is a striking 180-foot suspension bridge spanning Crabtree Creek—and a new parking area with a trailhead.

RK&K provided comprehensive construction management, inspection, and materials testing services throughout the project. The scope of work included clearing and grading, asphalt and concrete paving, concrete flatwork, pedestrian bridges, retaining walls, wooden boardwalks, signage, traffic signals, and pavement markings.

Originally federally funded through the Locally Administered Projects Program (LAPP), the project transitioned to City funding during construction to allow for the use of specific materials that better suited the project’s goals.

“This unique project for the City of Raleigh allowed RK&K to showcase our talents involving construction administration and field inspections along with helping shape the final outcome of the trail and all of its amenities.”
