The Project
Through two prime and three subconsultant contracts, RK&K provided on-call CE&I services for transportation construction projects statewide, with staff having worked in five of the seven SCDOT Districts. Services included performing inspection and testing in the areas of concrete, foundation, earthwork, drainage and base, erosion control, traffic control, asphalt roadway and plant, signal installation, survey verification, etc. RK&K monitored contractors’ work to ensure compliance with plans and specifications and oversaw sampling and testing procedures as outlined in SCDOT’s Construction Manual. RK&K also verified that construction estimates matched quantities installed by the contractor and made recommendations for payment. Staff used ProjectWise, AASHTOWare, and SiteManager for project documentation. Assignments included:
- Roadway Repaving and Rehabilitation
- Roadway Widening
- Sidewalk Retrofits
- Bridge Replacements, Rehabilitations, and Deck Resurfacings
- Historic Bridge Rehabilitations, including a rare T-Bridge
