RK&K is currently hiring a Technical Manager, Structures to join our team in Virginia Beach, Virginia. As a member of our Structures team at RK&K you will focus on leading a variety of dynamic structural pursuits and projects as it relates to transportation. You should have state (Virginia/VDOT) and municipal experience, be highly proactive, able to develop creative technical solutions, have a strong understanding of structural operations and hands-on experience with bridge design and field operations.

 

Essential Functions

  • Serve as a hands-on, project based, Structures Engineer for Virginia Structures projects providing technical expertise within structures, design production and oversight.
  • Provide active coordination with other engineering disciplines across multiple offices in a team environment.
  • Provide Senior level structural expertise on project aspects associated with conceptual engineering, detailed engineering designs, and preparation of contract documents for construction followed by construction administration with respect to the structural aspects of the project
  • Produce construction documents, specifications, and construction cost estimates
  • QA/QC for completeness and accuracy of design work
  • Provide engineering judgment and initiative within the Structural Engineering field
  • Train, and mentor entry level and junior level structural engineers
  • Assist with detailed and accurate inspection reports in client preferred formats documenting findings, assessments, and recommendations
  • Evaluate inspection reports generated by other Team Leaders or Inspectors for accuracy and completeness 

 Required Skills and Experience

  • Ten (10) + years of progressive transportation engineering experience in Structural Design
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Structural Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Virginia
  • Familiarity with applying industry standards including VDOT Standards, AASHTO LRFD, etc.
  • Ability to adhere to strict QA/QC requirements
  • Multi-tasking, Innovative/Creative thinker and problem solver in a fast paced, team environment.
  • Previous experience working with VDOT, local municipalities and counties 

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Wide variety of structural design experience including new and rehabilitated bridges, retaining walls, and misc. other structures on variety of types of crossings (roadway, water, interchange, etc).   
  • Experience assisting with Bridge Inspection
