We are hiring a skilled and experienced Bridge Engineer Engineer/Inspector to join our CEI/CM team in Raleigh, NC. As a Bridge Engineer on our Structures team you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive inspections of in-service bridges and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards. You must possess a valid NBIS Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges certification and an active P.E. to qualify for this role.
Essential Function
- Perform detailed inspections of bridges and transportation related structures in accordance with National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and other relevant guidelines
- Evaluate the condition and structural integrity of bridges, including substructures, superstructures, and related components
- Identify and document deficiencies, deterioration, or damage to bridge elements, including decks, beams, abutments, piers, and foundations
- Conduct non-destructive testing (NDT) and structural analysis to assess bridge performance and recommend appropriate maintenance or repair actions
- Prepare accurate and comprehensive inspection reports detailing findings, recommendations, and proposed solutions
- Collaborate with design and engineering teams to develop repair plans and specifications for bridge rehabilitation or replacement projects
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in bridge inspection technologies, methodologies, and industry best practices
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.)
- Minimum of Five (5) years of experience in structural inspection with a focus on bridges
- Valid NBIS Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges certificate
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to various work sites within North Carolina
- In-depth knowledge of National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS), AASHTO guidelines, and relevant federal and state regulations
- Proficiency in using bridge inspection software and tools for data collection, analysis, and reporting
- Strong understanding of structural engineering principles and familiarity with various bridge types and construction materials
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to assess bridge conditions accurately and propose effective solutions
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, plans, and specifications related to bridge construction and repair
- Proven leadership abilities to mentor and guide junior bridge inspectors
