RK&K is currently hiring a Project Engineer to join our highway design team in or around Allentown, PA. As a Highway Design Project Engineer for RK&K you will be responsible for leading and contributing to the project team with the design and preparation of a variety of Transportation / Highway Civil Engineering projects while adhering to RK&K’s QC/QA guidelines.
RK&K prepares transportation studies and designs ranging in scale from small single span bridge replacements to large infrastructure improvements. A sampling of some of the high profile and challenging projects that we have underway and to which prospective employees could be involved include:
- Route 462 Bridge Rehabilitation over the Susquehanna River in Lancaster/York Counties
- Reconstruction and widening of 7 miles of I-78 in Lehigh County
- I-76 ICM in Philadelphia County
- Reconstruction of 8 miles of I-80 in Columbia County
- In addition to supporting and leading projects up and down the east coast
Essential Function
- The experienced Project Engineer leads design tasks to ensure deliverables are completed within budget and on schedule
- Performs a wide variety of engineering tasks that may include data collection, engineering studies and analysis, the development of concept designs, cost estimates and specifications for transportation/civil design tasks including; roadway, interchanges, intersections, parking, sidewalks, trails, grading, drainage, utilities, traffic control and sediment control in accordance with local, state and federal design guidelines, standards, specifications and regulations
- Preparation of engineering plans using prescribed methods
- Work in a collaborative environment with a diverse, multi-disciplined project team under the guidance of senior engineering staff
- Communicate internally with coworkers and project teams, externally with client and project representatives via direct conversations, email, video, telephone and writing documentation
- Serve as subject matter expert on multiple designs and projects reporting to the Project Manager
- Provide guidance and mentorship to Entry and Associate Level Engineers
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in civil engineering on highway, transportation, traffic related projects
- Demonstrated knowledge of Bluebeam and Microsoft office applications
- Highly proficient with software including: MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoads, AutoDesk/CADD, Geopak
- Familiarity with engineering guidelines and best practices
- Confident communication and presentation ability
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.)
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Local PennDOT project experience
- Active in local associations and relevant groups
