Our continually growing Cultural Resources practice is currently seeking a qualified Professional Archaeologist who will help us meet critical regulatory needs on projects being advanced from our more than 30 offices.
Essential Function
RK&K is seeking Secretary of the Interior (SOI)-qualified candidates for multiple Professional Archaeological Field Manager positions to support on-going and upcoming archaeological projects in Virginia, Tennessee, and West Virginia. These are permanent, full-time positions to be based out of RK&K’s office locations in Virginia, Tennessee, or West Virginia (see weblink below). We offer a flexible office/home work arrangement, when not in the field. The candidate will collaborate closely with other staff archaeologists, architectural historians, and environmental planners to conduct project planning, logistics, fieldwork, artifact analysis, and report writing. This position will require regular travel away from the home office. Primary field assignments expected in Virginia, Tennessee, or West Virginia, with occasional assignments in surrounding states.
Required Skills and Experience
- Advanced degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field
- 5+ years of archaeological experience (Eastern US preferred)
- 2+ years of archaeological field project management experience implementing archaeological work plans and supervising archaeological crew chiefs and field archaeologists
- Secretary of the Interior (SOI)-qualified in archaeology
- Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA)
- Experience with both precontact and historic period archaeological research
- Understanding of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team that includes archaeologists, architectural historians, and environmental planners
- Solid research, technical writing, and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail when authoring and reviewing work
- Fluent with Microsoft Office
- Experience with ArcGIS, preferred

- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs
- Ability to walk long distances
- Ability to work well with others
- Ability to pass a background check
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
