RK&K is currently hiring a talented, eager, team-oriented Transportation Technician to join our Construction, Engineering, and Inspection (CEI) team in the North Wilkesboro area to work on some of the region’s most exciting projects!
Essential Functions
Asphalt laboratory Technician will be responsible for conducting tests on asphalt paving Mixtures used in North Carolina Highway system projects. Including Greenways, roadways, bridges and more.
- Testing of Asphalt paving mixtures for quality and compliance
- Collecting and processing data with precision
- Performing testing on asphalt materials from plants and field projects
- Maintain and clean laboratory equipment
- Assist Lead technician in upholding AASHTO accreditation standards
- Work with the Asphalt Quality Engineer to identify and resolve production- related asphalt mix issues
Required Skills and Experience
- Associate’s Degree or higher in a related field (Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Surveying, etc.)
- OR a minimum of 2 years of experience on transportation-focused construction projects with elements such as laboratory materials testing, earthwork, paving, and/or structures. Those currently pursuing a degree are also invited to apply
- Ability to use Microsoft office
- Ability to read and interpret contract specifications
- Ability to read and follow test specifications
- Ability to maintain thorough documentation
- Strong abilities with basic math, including area, volume, and the ability to convert between units
- Excellent driving record
- Willingness to work nights and weekends as required
Candidates must also be trustworthy, responsible, dependable, and willing to work independently as well as part of a team.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience working on NCDOT projects
- NCDOT certifications:
- Introduction to Asphalt Pavements
- QMS Roadway Technician
- QMS Level II plant technician
- OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety
Training will be provided as part of this role, including training necessary to become a fully certified NCDOT Technician.
